History

Shorts PLC of Belfast, Ireland, now owned by Bombardier, is the oldest established aircraft manufacturing company in the world, with accomplishments dating back to the turn of the 20th century. Developed from the EMB 312, the Shorts Tucano T.Mk 1 is substantially changed with nearly 80% of the aircraft upgraded for greater performance. The proven Garrett TPE-331-12B turbo-prop engine of 1100SHP powers the Shorts Tucano, driving a four bladed Hartzell propeller.

The Shorts Tucano T.Mk 1, first introduced in 1987, produced through 1993, is used by three national air forces, including the British Royal Air Force, the largest user of the Shorts Tucano.

The Shorts Tucano was subject to stringent testing to meet demanding military requirements, such as spin-tests is all attitudes including inverted spins, high-“G” landing loads, advanced fatigue testing, etc. The T. Mk 1 has an exceptional operational/flight history.
